Motorists face postcode lottery on fuel prices

Petrol pump prices are a postcode lottery with some motorists being charged up to £2 a tank more for fuel than those in neighbouring towns, according to research.

The disparity is due to some retailers failing to pass on a dip in wholesale petrol costs, the AA said.
It found that families had been left “high and dry” by the lack of transparency in a series of recent price spikes, allowing retailers to choose whether or not savings are passed on.
In Canterbury, Kent, the cheapest litre of unleaded petrol was yesterday selling for 134.7p, meaning that to fill a small 60-litre family car such as a Ford Focus it costs £80.82.
In Dover, 17 miles away, a litre of fuel sells for 138.9p, or £83.34 to fill up a car.
In Newbury, Berks, unleaded is 136.9p a litre whilst in neighbouring Reading, it is 134.7p and in Aylesbury, Bucks, it is 137.9p a litre compared to 134.7p in Milton Keynes. In Mansfield, Notts, it is 134.7p compared to 138.9p in neighbouring New Ollerton./folbuzz.com
